​The Benefits Of Healthy Mineralized Alkaline Water

You’re on a water diet and your tap water isn’t looking good, there’s no way you’re drinking that.

So you go to the supermarket in search of bottled water and you discover that there’s a whole section with different bottles of water and you’re in a fix, isn’t all water the same?

Well here’s your answer: ‘NO’.

Water as you already know comes from different sources. Natural sources include rivers, streams, springs, and rainfall among others.

However, as we evolve, we have been able to come up with several methods of conserving and purifying water. We have the tanks, boreholes, and wells among others.

So when you’re in that supermarket scanning through the sections of different water bottles you should know that they are from different sources. There you’ll find sparkling water (flavored and unflavored ), club soda, mineral water, spring water and several others.

Today we will be concentrating on the healthiest of these, mineral water.

What is Mineral Water?

Mineral water is alkaline water that contains minerals with pH within 8-9. This kind of water is found to be beneficial for many reasons. But first, here are some facts about mineralized water.

  • Drinking water has no universally accepted or recognized international standards:
  • According to the WHO, water that is intended to be consumed by a human being must have microbes and chemicals at a minimized level that cannot cause harm to the body when ingested.

    Regardless of the fact that drinking water is necessary for the survival of humanity, universally accepted standards have not been set.

    Some countries that have standards only use these standards as a guideline and not necessarily as a requirement for water consumption.

  • The drinking water standard in China has arsenic levels that are 5 times higher than the USA.
  • As there are generally no accepted standards for drinking water, different countries that have standards for their water have some fluctuations in the parameter of chemicals allowed.

    China has an allowed arsenic concentration of 50µg/l which is five times more than the allowed concentration for the United States, Canada and EU. Alarmingly, the USA allows 4 times more fluoride than China. Did you know Santevia has a fluoride filter?

  • Canada is the only country out of our sampled countries/regions that have a water pH standard.
  • Different countries have differences in the set parameters for drinking water. However, among China, USA, EU and Canada, Canada is the only country that has a pH regulatory standard because of infrastructure maintenance. When water is too acidic it corrodes the pipes and when it’s too basic it causes calcification.

    These regulatory guidelines are not in any way concerned about the benefits of alkaline water. The most important factor is whether the water wouldn’t corrode basic infrastructure.

  • The Canadian legislative structure for drinking water is characterized by both vertical and horizontal fragmentation.
  • Canada’s governance for drinking standards is not controlled by a central body like the federal government. Different parts of the state have different regulatory standards. International critics say that this style of water governance is ineffective. Water bodies are not bound, they move from one part of the state to another, so why shouldn’t a centralized approach be followed?

  • Chloramines which are formed when chlorine is used to disinfect water have been found to irritate the eyes and respiratory tract when they are present in concentrations above 1.0mg/l.

    Chloramines exposure has been found to lead to long-term health effect in pool workers.

    Guidelines have been put in place to check the level of chloramines in the household water supply.

    The World Health Organisation recently informed the International Symposium about the importance of calcium and magnesium in drinking water.

    In their words, “Long-term consumption of distilled water may lead to mineral deficiencies and health problems”.

    Water without minerals is considered dead water and is not healthy. Healthy water should contain minerals. Consumption of mineralized alkaline water will supplement the minerals deficient in your diet.

    Alkaline water can be gotten from natural sources or synthesized by electrolysis of tap water. The electrolysis process introduces electrons and radiation into the water instead of deriving alkalinity from beneficial minerals like calcium and magnesium. So the option of electrolysis of water has to be ruled out leaving us with just natural sources of alkaline water.

    Why the fuss about alkaline water?

    A recent study in 2012 showed that alkaline water is effective in reduction of acid reflux in patients with the disease. The stomach enzyme pepsin which when activated is responsible for acid reflux symptoms that could lead to cancer is destroyed by alkaline water.

  • It is generally safe to drink natural mineralized alkaline water since it contains natural minerals. Artificial alkaline water, like electrolysis, may be harmful to the body and should be avoided.
