Raise your hand if you’re setting a New Year’s resolution for 2019.
You want to improve your health? You want to feel more energized? Drinking more water could be the solution. Staying hydrated doesn’t have to be a feat, in fact, Santevia has outlined eight easy ways to drink more water this year. By making small changes in your daily life you can drastically improve your health.
1. Calculate how much water to drink
Although this number will vary based on sex, weight, and physical health, the rule of thumb for a healthy individual is about 2 litres or 8 eight-ounce glasses a day. If you’re exercising frequently, you should probably increase this by about a litre a day. For more information, check out 8 Benefits of Staying Hydrated for a number that’s tailored to you.
2. Keep a bottle with you
Carry a bottle with you to the office, the gym, or to keep in the car. The bottle will act as a reminder to keep sipping throughout the day - and ensure that you have water with you to sip on. Instead of buying single-use plastic water bottles, opt for an eco-friendlier version this year. Santevia offers reusable water bottles in durable Tritan plastic, or Stainless Steel.
3. Eat your water
Not all of hydration has to come from water itself. Eating water-rich foods is a sneaky way to help your body stay hydrated. Add foods like cucumbers, zucchinis, and celery to your grocery list. In fact, many water-rich foods are alkaline-forming in the body. So not only will you be staying hydrated, you’ll be helping your body neutralize acidity.
4. Download an app
It can seem intimidating to keep track of eight glasses of water a day. But tracking your water consumption can be easy - and super fun - with the help of an app. Our favourites at Santevia are Waterlogged and Daily Water (and they’re both free!).
5. Add flavour
Drinking water doesn’t have to be boring. Naturally add flavour to your H2O by mixing in fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. In fact, some ingredients can deliver antioxidants (like blueberries and raspberries) and boost your immune system (like lemon and ginger). Try mixing it up so you don’t get bored.
6. Opt for water instead of soda
While it’s ok to have once in a while, we all know by now that soda isn’t the healthiest option. To start the New Year off right, opt for water instead of a sugary alternative. By simply replacing sugary, carbonated drinks with H2O, you’ll be consuming more water than before.
7. Replace coffee with herbal tea
For most of us, a cup of coffee in the morning is part of our daily routine. It helps us wake up and get ready for the rest of the day. So instead of trying to cut out coffee altogether, swap your second cup for a herbal tea or hot water with lemon. While coffee is dehydrating, tea and lemon water are extremely hydrating and alkaline.
8. Invest in a filter
Investing in a quality filter is an investment in your health. First, choose the right filter. If only you or a few people will be using it, the Alkaline Pitcher - MINA SLIM is the best option for you. If you have a large family, or need a filter for the office, then the Gravity Water System is the best choice. Both these systems remove tap water contaminants such as chlorine and heavy metals.
Investing in a filter for your home or office will motivate you to drink more water on a daily basis. Above that, it will ensure that you’re drinking clean, mineralized, and alkaline water to keep you hydrated.
